When every second counts, gear failure is not an option. In tactical operations, particularly those involving helicopter insertions or extractions, the margin for error is razor-thin. That’s where Marlow Ropes’ FRIES (Fast Rope Insertion and Extraction System) delivers a critical edge, allowing operators to conduct both insertion and extraction without changing ropes.
For special operations units, tactical police teams, and rapid response forces across Australia, FRIES isn’t just a convenience, it’s a life-saving innovation.
What Is the FRIES System?
FRIES is Marlow’s purpose-built rope system designed for fast rope insertion and extraction via helicopter. Unlike traditional setups that require a second rope for extraction, FRIES integrates a reinforced loop system, allowing for rapid transition between insertion and extraction phases without reconfiguring the equipment.
Whether you’re deploying a team into a hot zone or extracting under fire, FRIES eliminates time-consuming rope changes, giving teams more flexibility and crucial seconds back on the clock.
Why It Matters in Australian Tactical Environments
From dense urban terrain to remote bushland and coastal deployments, Australia’s tactical operators face a wide range of environmental challenges. The FRIES system is engineered for real-world conditions with abrasion resistance, heat tolerance, and minimal elongation even under intense operational loads.
It’s also NSN-coded, compatible with most fast rope delivery systems, and already in use with elite military and law enforcement units globally.
Time-Critical Missions Need Fast Transitions
Here’s how FRIES makes a difference:
- No need to swap ropes between insertion and extraction
- Integrated loops for secure carabiner attachment in seconds
- Minimises rotor time, reducing aircraft exposure
- Boosts operational tempo without compromising safety
Whether responding to counter-terror incidents, offshore rescues, or time-critical extractions in hostile environments, FRIES saves time, reduces risk, and simplifies rope logistics in high-stress scenarios.
Technical Features at a Glance
- Construction: Heat-resistant polyester sheath and low-elongation core
- Diameters Available: Commonly 40mm (custom options available)
- Integrated Loops: Extraction loops spaced for team access
- Load Rating: Meets and exceeds international standards for tactical operations
Trusted by Professionals
Marlow’s FRIES system is designed in collaboration with special forces and field operators. When seconds matter, and lives are on the line, only a rope system that’s proven under pressure will do.
